He is an Indian actor and film director who has appeared in over 80 films and television programmes since his debut in 1982. Kher’s first role was as a child actor in the film Mahabharata (1981). In 2000, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as a gay man in the critically acclaimed drama Lagaan.

Kher began his acting career at age 12, appearing as a child actor in Mahabharata (1981). He made his acting debut as an adult with a supporting role in the 1981 Hindi-language comedy film Qurbani.
